Have you been feeling tired lately? Not just the kind of tired a nap can fix, but that deep soul-weariness that doesn’t seem to go away.
Just so you know… you’re not alone.
When you constantly put yourself last, life starts to feel heavy. You may think you’re doing the right thing — being strong, selfless, dependable. But little by little, the pressure builds. And before you know it, you’re stressed out, overwhelmed, and wondering why you can’t feel God working in your life.
I want to gently talk about something we don’t often say out loud: neglecting your own needs can steal your peace, damage your connection with God, and leave you running on empty. But here’s the good news — you can find your way back.
Why Ignoring Your Needs Leads to Stress
Maybe you’ve told yourself, “I’ll rest when things calm down,” or “Other people have it worse, I should be fine.” But pushing your own needs aside doesn’t make you more loving or faithful — it just slowly wears you down.
When you don’t care for yourself:
- Your body starts to ache.
- Your mind gets foggy.
- Your emotions feel out of control.
- Your prayers feel harder to pray.
Stress isn’t just a busy schedule — it’s your soul’s way of saying, “I can’t carry this much without help.” Even Jesus made time to rest, to be alone, to step away from the crowd. Why do we think we have to be stronger than the one who was sent to save?
The Peace You’re Longing For Can’t Thrive in Neglect
Peace isn’t something you stumble into when life finally gets easier — it’s something you build by choosing rhythms that honor who you are and how God made you.
When you neglect yourself, you lose the stillness you need to breathe, to hear from God, to just be. And without that peace, you start feeling:
- Easily overwhelmed
- Emotionally reactive
- Distant from the people you love (and yourself)
Peace needs space. It needs quiet. It needs permission to say, “I can’t do it all today.” And that’s okay.
When You’re Disconnected from Yourself, It’s Hard to Feel Close to God
Here’s something I’ve learned the hard way: when I stop paying attention to my needs — physical, emotional, spiritual — I slowly lose touch with God too.
Why? Because God often speaks through those quiet nudges:
- “You’re tired. Rest.”
- “You’re overwhelmed. Slow down.”
- “You need comfort. Come to Me.”
But if you keep pushing those nudges aside in the name of productivity or perfectionism, you miss His voice. Not because He stopped speaking, but because you stopped listening.
God doesn’t want a burnt-out version of you. He wants the real you. The one that breathes deep, feels fully, and comes to Him just as you are.
“Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28
He didn’t say, “Come to me once you’ve finished everything on your to-do list.”
How to Start Reconnecting — With Yourself and With God
You don’t have to overhaul your whole life overnight. This isn’t about a massive transformation — it’s about one small step back toward wholeness. Here are a few gentle ways to begin:
1. Ask Yourself What You Need — Without Judgment
Take a breath and check in with yourself.
What are you feeling? What’s been missing?
Try writing it down or praying it out loud.
2. Give Yourself Permission to Rest
You don’t have to earn rest.
You’re allowed to stop, breathe, and simply exist.
Maybe today that looks like a nap, a walk, or doing nothing at all. It all counts.
3. Build Little Rhythms of Care
Think small:
- Drinking more water
- Going to bed earlier
- Saying no to something that drains you
- Talking to a friend who fills your heart
These are holy acts, too.
4. Invite God Into the Messy Middle
You don’t need to wait until you feel better to talk to God. He already sees your exhaustion.
Tell Him honestly: “I’m tired, Lord. I don’t even know where to begin.”
That’s more than enough.
5. Let Grace Be the Starting Point
If you’ve been running on empty for a while, there’s no need to feel ashamed. Just start where you are. Let God’s grace carry you one step at a time. You don’t need to fix everything — you just need to come home to yourself again.
You Deserve to Be Cared For — By You
You were never meant to live disconnected from your own needs. God made you a whole person — body, soul, spirit — and He cares about every part of you.
So here’s your reminder:
- You are allowed to rest.
- Your needs are not a burden.
- Taking care of yourself is not selfish!
- God is not far from you. He’s as close as your next deep breath.
Start small. Start gently. But start now.
You are worth it. And if you don’t know where or how to start check out this Digital Workbook: 30 Days to Peace and it’s too much start small with this digital Journal: From Calm to Chaos A 7-Day Reset
